  1. 1938

    The Beginning 1938

    Mr Leo Edward Tutt formally registers L. Tutt & Co. Pty Ltd selling earthmoving equipment out of a small office located in Sydney’s CBD. Armed with an idea and £500, Mr Leo Tutt would join up with Mr George Edward Bryant and embark on a journey that eventually brought about one of Australia’s largest and most iconic construction equipment sales, manufacturing and distribution companies at the time – Tutt Bryant Limited.

  2. 1939

    Leo Tutt buys the Australian agency for Le Tourneau equipment and Allis-Chalmers for £3,000. However, due to Import restrictions L.Tutt & Company are taxed exorbitantly for the importation of equipment from Le Tourneau, USA. To appease the situation, George Bryant flies to Illinois, USA and meets with Le Tourneau founder Robert LeTourneau proposing they build LeTourneau products in Australia. Robert LeTourneau replies and agrees with a simple “sure let’s go ahead” with no writing or formal procedures required. Tutt and Bryant subsequently form LeTourneau Australia with financial backing from Bob to build the machines in Australia.

  3. 1943

    Leo Edward Tutt and George Edward Bryant combine to form Tutt Bryant Pty. Ltd, importing and selling used earthmoving equipment particularly from Pacific islands after WWII.

  4. 1948

    • Celebrating 10 years of business. A tradition that continues today, with the annual Staff 10 Year Anniversary Club Dinner.
    • Tutt Bryant enters into license agreement with Clark Equipment as their exclusive Australian distributor. At that point in time, Clark Equipment was the largest materials handling equipment distributor in the world. This marked Tutt Bryant’s initial foray into the Materials Handling environment.
  5. 1950

    1950s Exceptional Growth

    The 50s saw Tutt Bryant grow exponentially into Australia’s largest distributor and manufacturer of earthmoving equipment in Australia and the South Pacific. This was evident in the diverse and multiple operating divisions under Tutt Bryant. During this time, Tutt Bryant also played a significant part in the provision of a variety of equipment for the development of the historic Snowy Mountains Hydro Scheme.

  7. 1952

    Tutt Bryant Ltd enter into agreement with Wesfarmers Tutt Bryant Ltd. Wesfarmers to operate as distributor for all A.C.E (Australian Crane & Excavator) company equipment. Westinghouse Air Brake Corporation acquires Le Tourneau. George E Bryant the current chairman for Le Tourneau Australia forms Le Tourneau Westinghouse ltd.

  8. 1963

    • The early 1960s began the expansion of Tutt Bryant into international territory, specifically SE Asia. This was largely due to the recent spate of international interest in the purchasing of equipment.
    • Tutt Bryant enters into agreement with Pakistan Radio House to operate as sole distributor within the Pakistan area. Tutt Bryant enters into agreement with Pan Supplies to operate as distributors within the Thailand region.
  9. 1968

    Tutt Bryant Manufacturing Group wins the Australian Export Award.

  10. 1969

    Tutt Bryant enters partnership with Mustang, continuing today.

  11. 1972

    George Edward Bryant suffers a heart attack whilst operating earthmoving equipment and passes away.

  12. 1974

    In 1974, Tutt Bryant undergoes significant changes following the passing of George Bryant. Tutt Bryant is de-Listed from the ASX and Escor (later to be known as Bowater) takeover majority share of Tutt Bryant. Tutt Bryant is later re-branded to “Bowater Tutt Bryant”.

  13. 1975

    Tuesday 1st July, 1975 Leo Edward Tutt retires following 35 years’ service. Having reached 72 years and in accordance with his own rule, Leo Tutt retired from the Board of Directors following a remarkable career that includes the distinction of founding Australia’s largest construction machinery house.

  14. 1979

    Tutt Bryant enters partnership with Yanmar, continuing today.

  15. 1981

    Tutt Bryant Machinery Group acquires new franchise – Euclid mining trucks. Tutt Bryant NSW delivers Euclid R170 Rear Dump Truck to Ravensworth Open Cut mine site – the largest overburden removal dump truck in the Hunter Valley (capacity to hold 154 tonnes)

  16. 1985

    Tutt Bryant secures one of the largest equipment distribution deals in its history with an order for Euclid Mine Trucks valued at $33m for delivery to Coal & Allied and its associated mines in the Hunter Valley. Tutt Bryant Pacific also wins Australian Design Award for the development and production of its innovative state of the art self-propelled vibratory roller.

  17. 1986

    Tutt Bryant enters partnership with Bomag, continuing today.

  18. 1987

    Closing of Pacific manufacturing facilities at Hornsby with a relocation to Tutt Bryant’s Rydalmere NSW premises. As a result, all manufacturing is moved to Tutt Bryant at Tottenham in Victoria – where they built Pacific Rollers, Grove Cranes, Pacific Borers and made kit manufacturing mainstream – a revolutionary approach to Australian manufacturing.

  19. 1991

    Tutt Bryant enters partnership with Sumitomo, continuing today.

  20. 1996

    1996 – New Beginnings

    Bowater, major shareholder of Tutt Bryant and its subsidiaries divests and sells off all Australian Assets. Tat Hong from Singapore acquires the Tutt Bryant equipment sales division and formally announces their entrance into the Australian construction equipment distribution and manufacturing market.

  21. 2001

    Operating under the new name of Tutts Tat Hong, Tutts enters into a JV with Banbury Engineering to form BT (Banbury and Tutt) Equipment Pty Ltd. As a result, Tutts Tat Hong becomes National Distributor for Kato, Bomag, Sumitomo excavators, Hitachi-Sumitomo Cranes, Yanmar Excavators etc…..

    As subsidiary of Tutts Tat Hong – Tutt Bryant Crane Hire (TBCH) was established with a fleet of four crawler cranes -150, 100, 80 & 50 tonners. Tutt Bryant Crane Hire was formed to target the Australian crane hire market. A major project for TBCH in 2002 was the awarding of tender position for the Train IV LNG project, leading to the purchase of 11 additional cranes and beginning their operations within the LNG market.

  22. 2003

    The next seven years would see Tutts Tat Hong undertake a number of acquisitions in an effort to diversify their business operations and expand into new markets.

  23. 2012

    • Tutt Bryant Heavy Lift & Shift purchase the Terex-Demag CC8800-1, the largest crawler crane in based and commissioned in Australia. The CC8800-1 has the capacity to lift 1,600 tonnes.
    • Tutt Bryant enters partnership with Metso as National distributor.
  24. 2013

    Tutt Bryant Group and its operating divisions celebrate their 75th Anniversary.

  25. 2017

    Tutt Bryant enters partnership with Combi Wear Parts as National distributor.

  26. 2018

    • Tutt Bryant Heavy Lift and Shift Build Timboon Wind Farm
    • Tutt Bryant Group Celebrate their 80th Anniversary
