Rest In Peace Mr Ng Chwee Cheng founder of Tat Hong

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Mr Ng Chwee Cheng, the founder of Tat Hong, on 4 January 2025, at the age of 94.

A pioneer who took a small battery and tyre shop established in the founding years of Singapore to become a pan-regional cranes and heavy equipment business, his story is one of trail-blazing spirit, resilience, and family.

It was a time of turmoil and upheaval, having lived through the Japanese Occupation during WWII, then the turbulent post-war period as Singapore determined its national identity and realised its place in the region and around the world.

In those hard times, Mr Ng Chwee Cheng found success with his resolute and entrepreneurial ways. But behind that stern, no-nonsense exterior was a man who looked after his family and provided for others in need. He showed us the importance of hard work, integrity, and looking out for one another.

Several Tutt Bryant employees had the fortune of meeting Mr Ng Chwee Cheng over the years, and trust that he had made a lasting impression. He had always been immensely proud of what we have built in Australia, and greatly appreciative of everyone embracing being part of the Tat Hong / Tutt Bryant family.

Across the industry and our community, Mr Ng Chwee Cheng’s legacy is immense. His virtues of hard work, integrity, and maintaining an active body and mind, carry through in life and work.

The funeral will be held on Friday, 10 January 2025. Where possible, we are grateful if you can observe a moment of remembrance at 12 noon, Singapore time.

What Mr Ng Chwee Cheng had toiled to build will endure, we will make sure of that.
