Lima South Quarry

Featuring the Metso Lokotrack LT130E

Just one month after the first Metso LT130E Lokotrack was introduced to Australia,  operations are well underway with Lima South Quarry productions at Alex Fraser Group. With production well exceeding expectation and energy usage as low as promised, to Ashley Day (Managing Director of Lima South Quarry (LSQ) it is clear the LT130E has lived up to its promise of improved coarse feed material handling through the deeper 1000m feed opening. Couple that with the reduced operating and transportation costs, there’s no surprise the LT130E was a hot topic at Tutt Bryant Equipment’s industry gathering. Seven crushing industry experts from around Australia were flown to Victoria see Mr Day’s new jaw crusher in action, with the durability and quality of Metso’s build noted by all.

Day began his Lokotrack journey with Tutt Bryant Equipment in 2016 with a LT3000HP, with the LT130E being the fifth machine added to his fleet. At 132 tonnes the LT130E stands marginally larger than its predecessor, the LT125, yet a number of key modifications result in days’ reduction in transportation time and potential contract setup within hours not several days. Tutt Bryant Equipment Metso BDM, Paul Doran, attributes the ongoing evolution of engineering innovation continues and set Metso apart from its competitors.

“The process for transportation has been streamlined to a far more efficient system.”  Doran explains, “it’s now a smooth move between different sites. All the electric and hydraulic connections have quick couplings for fast disassembly, with hydraulic legs engaged to lift the crusher and feeder above the chassis for transfer to a trailer. As with all  Lokotrack mobile plants, the chassis can be driven onto the float via remote control”.

With Martyn Driscoll, Tutt Bryant Equipment’s Metso National Technical Support Manager on hand to provide an overview of the mechanical and electrical commissioning to Australian standards.

For a seasoned Metso operator like Day, commissioning and integration into his fleet was seamless. Producing high volumes of aggregates at both the Alex Fraser Group’s site and Lima South, LSQ operators could link their settings for specific application requirements with to the Metso ICr (intelligent crusher remote monitoring system), and start running smoothly from their cab. When asking Day which feature showed the largest benefit to his
operations, he replied;

”Being able to have the capacity to feed the odd larger rock into the crushing chamber helps in the environment we are in. Another massive benefit is the decline in rocks bridging on top of the jaw due to the size of the equipment. Other benefits with the Metso equipment are the strength of the tracking equipment which assist getting into tough and tight locations. I would recommend anyone looking at large scale Mobile Jaw crushers to invest in the time looking at one of these monsters!”
