Tutt Bryant works on Toowoombas Outer Circulating Road project

Toowoomba Regional Council’s Outer Circulating Road project is earmarked as a watershed improvement to the city’s mainframe infrastructure. Consisting of a network of roads forming a loop around Toowoomba’s City Centre, it is designed to improve traffic flow around the CBD easing congestion for motorists intending to get from one side of the city to the other. The project will also improve flood mitigation with new drainage structures to be constructed along West Creek at the Russell and Victoria St’s intersection.

Contracted by Probuild Civil, Tutt Bryant Heavy Lift & Shift was approached to transport and erect thirty-nine, 80 to 100-tonne girders forming the laneways linking Russell and Ruthven St’s. To carry out the work, Tutt Bryant mobilised the SCC4000E 400 tonne crawler crane complete with 200 tonne of superlift and 72 meters of main boom. The advantage of configuring the SCC4000E in superlift mode was its ability Off Load, lift, and place the girders into position from one central location.

Tutt Bryant also utilised two 80 tonne crawler cranes to carry out piling works for Ausipile Contractors. When these cranes finished the piling works one was kept on site as an assist crane for the 400 tonne and the other was hired by Probuild Civil to install the concrete deck units on the cut and cover part of the project. Utilising the 80-tonne crawler for these works was a far better and cost-effective alternative for Probuild. Using hydraulic mobile cranes would require multiple set up’s a day losing valuable time.

The first girders were transported and lifted into position on 2nd of October 2014 with the final beam being placed on the 7th of November 2014.
